Atlantic forest Research And Conservation Alliance
MISSION & VISION
ARAÇÁ is dedicated to biodiversity research, conservation, and ecological restoration. Its long-term goal is to promote sustainable land management that integrates the needs of local communities with the preservation of natural resources.
KEY INFRASTRUCTURE
The organization’s activities are centered on two primary locations in the state of Rio de Janeiro:
RPPN Alto da Figueira: A 120-hectare private reserve of primary rainforest near Nova Friburgo. It houses a state-of-the-art research station with the capacity to host 30 researchers and a limited number of eco-tourists.
Pirineus: A 300-hectare site within the Tres Picos State Park, equipped with a smaller, more basic facility.
ORIGENS & SUPPORT
Founders: Established by Alexandre and Anna Antonelli.
Benefactors: Launched with "generous support" from the Ax:son Johnson family.
Partnerships: It operates through formal collaborations with various national and international organizations.
