Our mission is to understand and protect Brazil's Atlantic Forest
through world-class research, restoration and training.

WHAT WE DO
RESEARCH & INFRASTRUCTURE
The project operates as a centre of excellence for scientific research. We have stablished a state-of-the-art field station at RPPN Alto da Figueira (near Nova Friburgo) that can host up to 30 researchers. This provides the necessary infrastructure for scientists, students and professionals to study primary rainforests and biodiversity in depth.
LAND MANAGEMENT & CONSERVATION
ARAÇÁ manages directly two key areas totalling over 420 ha of largely pristine Atlantic rainforest:
RPPN Alto da Figueira: a 120 ha private reserve.
Pirineus: a 300 ha site within the Três Picos State Park.
Our goal is to expand this footprint to create protected corridors that will increase connectivity between areas and help to prevent further loss of the remaining fragments of the Atlantic Forest.
RESTORATION & SUSTAINABILITY
ARAÇÁ's projects focus on:
-
Reforestation: Restoring degraded lands to capture carbon and protect species.
-
Sustainable Stewardship: Balancing environmental needs with the needs of local people. This includes providing ecosystem services like clean water, air, and pollination services.
-
Conscious Eco-Tourism: Offering limited capacity for visitors to generate sustainable income and increased awareness.
