01. What's ARAÇÁ?
ARAÇÁ is the Atlantic forest Research and Conservation Alliance, a collaborative network of researchers, environmental educators, and restoration specialists dedicated to understanding and protecting Brazil's Atlantic Forest through world-class research, conservation, education and training initiatives.'
02. What's RPPN Alto da Figueira?
RPPN Alto da Figueira is a private reserve owned by Alexandre and Anna Antonelli, and home of ARAÇÁ and Alto da Figueira Field Station. The area is 120 ha of pristine Atlantic Forest, with a rich mosaic of forests, mountains, valleys, and streams, ranging from 1,100 to 1,610 meters above sea level.
03. Where's RPPN Alto da Figueira, ARAÇÁ and Alto da Figueira Field Station located?
RPPN Alto da Figueira, ARAÇÁ and Alto da Figueira Field Station are located just outside Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, approximately 2.5 hours by car from Rio de Janeiro city and the Galeão international airport. See map here.
04. How do I get to RPPN Alto da Figueira, ARAÇÁ and Alto da Figueira Field Station?
We recommend that you rent a vehicle. It will enable you to work independently and go on excursions near by if you wish to. If renting a vehicle is not an option, there are hourly busses (1001 bus company; link here) leaving from Rio de Janeiro to Nova Friburgo's south buss station (Rodoviária Sul). From the south buss station you can get a taxi or Uber. Or we can arrange a driver for a small fee.
05. How do I find Hans Garlipp Street (Rua Hans Garlipp km 6), the address of RPPN Alto da Figueira, ARAÇÁ and Alto da Figueira Field Station?
In Google Maps, write RPPN Alto da Figueira. It will give you the precise location where we are. If you don't trust Google Maps, on the way to Mury (Nova Friburgo's neighbourhood) you will turn right at the restaurant called Lá na Marina. From there, it's 6 km of dirt road until you reach RPPN Alto da Figueira's sign.
