šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ The Solitary Tinamou (Tinamus solitarius) is the largest of the tinamous in the Atlantic Rainforest. The reduction of original forests and persecution by hunting have made the Solitary Tinamou a rare and threatened bird, having become extinct from much of its original distribution. In the Serra dos ƓrgĆ£os mountain range, populations still survive on humid slopes facing the coast, as is the case in MacaĆ© de Cima, the region where our reserve - RPPN Alto da Figueira - is located. This spring, an active Solitary Tinamou nest was found. Using camera traps, we monitored the father's care for 2 weeks until the eggs hatched. The existence of Solitary Tinamou in MacaĆ© de Cima shows us that hunting pressure is minimal, and that the remaining forests are in excellent condition.
